ViRTUS is a (re)certified B Corp!

The ViRTUS team is thrilled to announce that we have officially recertified as a B Corp this February, 2023 with an overall B Impact score of 96.7! We’re proud to be part of a global community using business as a force for good.

What is a B Corp? B stands for Benefit for all. As a B Corp, we are part of a group of businesses working to change our economic system to positively impact all stakeholders — workers, communities, customers, and our planet.

What does recertification mean? B Lab requires B Corps (like us) to recertify every three years, to verify that we have met their high standards for social and environmental impact. The median score for ordinary businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9; B Corps are required to score 80 or higher each certification cycle.

Our recertification journey. ViRTUS initially certified as a B Corp in January 2019 with a score of 83.2. Since then, we’ve been working towards recertification and improving our business. In January 2022, we submitted our B Impact assessment, and worked with the B Corp team to verify our score. In February 2023, we officially recertified with a B Impact score of 96.7, a 16% improvement from our previous assessment. The process has been rigorous, and we want to thank the verification team for continuing to raise their standards and hold businesses accountable.

Impact Areas. The Impact Assessment is categorized into five impact areas, that represent our governance, and four key stakeholder groups: workers, community, environment, and customers. Since transparency is a big part of being a B Corp, here’s how we did:

    • 16.8: Governance evaluates a company’s overall mission, engagement around its social/environmental impact, ethics, and transparency
    • 33.3: Workers evaluates a company’s contributions to its employees’ financial security, health & safety, wellness, career development, and engagement & satisfaction
    • 25: Community evaluates a company’s engagement with and impact on the communities in which it operates, hires from, and sources from
    • 7.4: Environment evaluates a company’s overall environmental management practices as well as its impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity
    • 14: Customers evaluates a company’s stewardship of its customers through the quality of its products and services, ethical marketing, data privacy and security, and feedback channels*

What’s next? We have work to do, and we’re ready for it. Leading up to our next verification deadline in February 2026, we’re going to be focusing heavily on leveling up our community, environmental, and customer impact. The B Impact assessment makes it clear where we can improve, and our fellow B Corps have a wealth of tactical knowledge on how we’ll get there. We’re excited to see where we go!
