OUR COMMITMENT

What we CARE about

ViRTUS is a member of the B Corporation™ movement and we’re proud to be a part of this community of leaders, driving a movement of people using business as a force for good.

Certified B Corporations™ are companies verified by B Lab™ to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Initially certified in 2019 when we signed the B Corp Declaration of Interdependence, and recertified in 2023, we’re counted among businesses that are leading a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. One of the hallmarks of B Corp™ is transparency, you can read more about our certification here.

We’re in great company, with businesses like MEC, Patagonia, Seventh Generation, Pela, and Ben and Jerry’s, MPOWERD, and over 300 Canadian businesses.

In early 2022, ViRTUS officially certified as a Living Wage Employer.

Being a Living Wage Employer means that all our direct and contracted team members are paid (at least) the living wage for our region. The campaign raises awareness of the negative impacts of low-wage poverty on families and communities.

For us, joining the Living Wage Employer campaign supports investment into the local communities where we learn, work, and live. We’ve also successfully recertified in both the 2023 and 2024 campaigns.

In 2018, ViRTUS underwent the Climate Smart Certification - the creation and implementation of a formal Greenhouse Gas reduction plan. We have publicly committed to the B Corp Climate Collective pledge, with the goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2030. We track emissions on platforms equipped with GHG monitoring capabilities, including Google Workspace. We have a goal of at least 50% of our expenses (excluding labour) being spent with independent suppliers local to the company's headquarters or relevant facilities, and 15% of our purchases from suppliers with diverse ownership, each year.

We are committed to giving back in the communities that our team lives and works in. Each team member is given 8 hours per year to volunteer in a meaningful way. As an organization, we align our quarterly company meetings with a company-wide volunteering event. Beyond our time, we financially support the Big Sisters of BC.
